As stakeholders from across Impact Global Health Alliance gathered for the annual meeting, we were encouraged by Executive Director Andrew Herrara to think about why we’re involved with IGHA. This was an excellent way for us to reflect and share about what this impactful organization means to each of us. Below are the “whys” of several attendees of the annual meeting:

My “why” is to be able to continue my passion as a nurse (now retired) to improve maternal-child health especially, but any priority health concern to underserved communities.  I am also very supportive of the idea of women’s empowerment in being integral to individual and family health.” -Kathy Austin, volunteer since May of 2024

“I want to do what I can to save the lives of people, especially children, from readily preventable or treatable conditions.” -Dr. Henry Perry, co-founded IGHA in 1984

“I feel connected to the mission of helping women and children worldwide be as healthy as possible. I also relate to the highly innovative, effective approaches IGHA employs to get the work done and ensure strong outcomes. I love the balance of data and humanity and want to set an example for my kids that it’s important to think about communities beyond our own, and beyond our borders, who need support and resources. I believe there is so much good the organization is doing and am inspired by the vision Andrew, Barbara and the board continue to bring forward to improve and broaden impact.”-Elizabeth Cohen, volunteer since September 2024

Improving the lives and health of the poorest individuals.”- Dr. Mario Valdez, involved since 1999
