In response to the Volcano, Guatemalans across the Carolinas are providing assistance to support there friends and family back home. Specifically, collection sites are sprouting up to collect donated goods and get them to Guatemala ASAP. You can help by donating here, or donating collected goods at one of the collection sites. Volunteers are also needed at the collection sites themselves.
Here is a link to a recent message from the Guatemalan Consulate here in Raleigh. The rough translation is below:
From the Consulate’s release, we see there are the following needs:
“- equipment for shelters
– camp shelters
– cold food rations
– personal hygiene items
– medicines for pain care
– water filters
– mobile toilets
– medical and surgical equipment
-mobile hospitals and medical assistance
other donations from individuals
Apart from their donations of inputs and money, many volunteers are needed in the collection centers to help receive, sort and pack donations that will be sent to Guatemala.”
