Raleigh-based global health non-profit’s cooperation with state’s Community Health Worker initiative extends to 26 counties

Raleigh, N.C., April 2021 – Today, Impact Global Health Alliance Global, a non-profit based in Raleigh, North Carolina, that partners with underserved communities around the world to make measurable and sustainable improvements to communities’ health and wellbeing, announces that its partnership with The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and its Community Health Worker Program (CHW), has reached more than 125,000 people in underserved communities throughout the state.

Unified by a common goal to reach those that fall outside of the healthcare system, Impact Global Health Alliance and NCDHHS have guided over 200 Community Health Workers across 26 counties within the state, in its effort to reach the most vulnerable and marginalized communities, a need amplified amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the start of the year, Impact Global Health Alliance, its nonprofit partners and CHWs, have been a source of help to those who had nowhere to turn during the pandemic. Their combined efforts have connected over 11,000 people to necessary food resources, and they have been unyielding in their oversight to further vaccination education. They have delivered vaccination education to nearly 34,000 people, overseen 238 vaccination events across the state, assisted 162 CHWs in receiving vaccines, led 214 COVID-19 Vaccine Management System (CVMS) trainings to completion, and have hosted over 200 vaccine-101 training events. 

“The heartbeat of our organization is serving the forgotten, and through our continued partnership with the state of North Carolina, we have been able to directly impact the families who fall outside the borders of the public healthcare model, and the Community Healthcare Workers who serve those families. Our prolonged partnership has had a tremendous reach in the local communities that we are so honored to serve,” shares Andrew Herrera, Executive Director of Impact Global Health Alliance Global.

Impact Global Health Alliance’ expertise in community-based, impact-oriented methodology (CBIO) will further aid volunteers to serve right in the backyard of their own community.

Impact Global Health Alliance works directly with Community Health Workers, training them to identify and connect underserved families with vital resources, including food, COVID-19 testing sites, unemployment offices, transportation resources and more. 

“In similar fashion to our global project sites, we will continue to train healthcare workers who work and live within these communities – who speak their language and have developed a trust with those we seek to reach,” employs Herrera. “We meet these families where they’re at so we can best understand their needs and connect them to the appropriate resources – food, housing assistance, internet services, and so forth.”

Impact Global Health Alliance will continue to be a support line for communities across the Carolinas, with hundreds of volunteers to help families navigate education, resources, and the prolonged pandemic. 

The goal of this partnership is to reach families who are often left behind across North Carolina, documenting and addressing their fundamental needs, while linking them to critical resources.
