Children with Support

“With the purpose of improving the health of the women and children of its rural areas, the Observatory of Reproductive Health, in coordination with the Panamerican Organization of Health (OPS), met in the community of Chivaquito in Cabulco, Baja Verapaz in order to flesh out the details of the construction of a Casa Materna in that village.

The meeting began in Chivaquito, nearly 20 kilometers from the center of the city. The leaders of the organizations walked several hours in order to reach the community, as it is one of the most remote in the city. There are 167 families in the community that will benefit from the construction of the Health Clinic.

The community members that met with the organizations’ leaders stated that the most important thing for them was keeping medicine in the health centers. They requested that they be stocked with medicine that could later be used to later stock the Casa Materna.

One of the children that will benefit from the project was very happy to know that the organizations were constructing a Casa Materna where he and his siblings could receive medical care.”
